AFROTHENTIQUE: A Cultural Fusion Of African Food, Fashion, And Music.

Hey guys,

I am thrilled to share with you some exciting news and what I have been up to lately.

A few months ago, I came across two young professional men originally from Cameroon turned proud Milwaukeeans. These two ambitious guys had an idea and an itch to fill a gap, something that our city tremendously lacks: An authentic representation of African Arts and Entertainment!

Hence, they came up with SoSo Africa which is the name of their company and decided to host their first ever event here in Miwaukee called AFROTHENTIQUE.

You are probably wondering what is AFROTHENTIQUE?

-An Authentic African Experience
-A Fusion of Africa's Wonderful Arts
-A Stimulating Cultural Extravaganza

What to expect?

>A unique experience of Africa in its many art forms (culture, music, fashion, and food)
>African food by Milwaukee very own chef Yollande Deacon and owner of Afro Fusion Cuisine
>African Music by the one and only African music expert Dj Big G.
>A Live Zouk performance by Gabon-born singer Gael Amour coming all the way from DC
>African Fashion show by yours truly

I met up with the multifaceted Gilles aka Dj Big G (who is also one of the founders of SoSo Africa) for a quick interview and here is what he had to say:

1) Tell me a little bit about SoSo Africa

There is so much to explore in Africa which is why my partner Tanyi and I chose "SoSo" Africa as our company's name to highlight the fact that this beautiful continent of ours is limitless.
In the simplest of terms, SoSo Africa's vision is to make African Arts, culture, and entertainment mainstream through education, promotion, and commercialization.

2) What inspired you to put AFROTHENQUE together, why did you feel the need to introduce such an event to Milwaukee?

I saw a gap in Milwaukee. African arts and entertainments were not represented as they should be. So my partner Tanyi and I decided to do something about it and here we are!

3) A message for my readers?

If you are in the Milwaukee area or close, I encourage you to come check out what we have to offer. This is definitely a one of a kind event, Milwaukee has not seen anything of this caliber and we are working hard to give you something that will blow your mind.
Africa is so rich and diverse, there is so much to explore, and learn. So if you want to try something new, step out of your comfort zone, meet people from different backgrounds with global prospective or are just curious, I suggest you get your tickets today and come experience it all in one night at AFROTHENTIQUE.

You will be exposed to a mixture of entertainment, networking opportunities, and an educational experience all while having fun! Don't miss it!

OK! I know that was a lot to take in all at once so here is the run-down:

WHEN: Saturday August 16th
WHERE: Ultra Lounge (628 N Water St)

I can barely contain my excitement for this event!!! This will be my third African Fashion Show I coordinate and style here in Milwaukee. Africa is so close to my heart so whenever I get the opportunity to promote and share my culture with others, I feel a great sense of accomplishment.
